(Oakland, IA) – Thursday nights are made for volleyball matches, and this match will not disappoint. Audubon will be traveling to Oakland to take on the Riverside Bulldogs tonight to battle at the net. Audubon and Riverside are ranked number nine and ten consecutively in the Class 1A standings according to GoBound.
Audubon recently just lost their last match to Glidden-Ralston in a triangular 2-1, as they fell in the third set 15-12. The Wheelers are led by Mattie Nielsen as the senior has 85 kills and leads the team in the back row with 68 digs. Harlow Miller leads the team in blocks with nine and sits second on the team in kills with 67. Setter Addie Hocker already has 181 assists in just 10 games this season and looks to continue those assists with the combination of Nielsen and Miller. Hocker also leads the team in the serving game with 29 aces and is 91% this season at the service line.
Riverside just recently beat Woodbine in the Missouri Valley Invite. Before that 2-0 victory, they lost four straight three-set matches. Those four straight matches are the most that the Bulldogs have lost consecutively since 2021. Riverside is led by Elyssa Amdor as she has earned 38 kills and 44 digs in 11 matches this season. The Bulldogs just don’t rely on Amdor, as Sophia Taylor sits right behind her with 36 kills and leads the team with nine blocks. Ayla Richardson sits at 30 kills and 28 digs with a team-leading 97 assists. Finishing things off statistically, Carly Henderson has 68 digs while Madison Kelley has 15 with 26 kills.
This will be the first time this season that the two teams match up, with Riverside taking the last match in 2022 3-0. The last time Audubon beat Riverside was on October 8, 2018, when they beat the Bulldogs 3-1. Both teams run a different offense as Audubon has stuck to a 5-1 offense while Riverside has stuck to a 6-2 offense. We will see how these teams match up this evening at Riverside High School with a LIVE broadcast on KSOM 96.5 FM and video coverage on Western Iowa Today. Zach Collins and Austin West will be on the call with a pregame show starting at 6:45 p.m.
