(Area) This morning, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for western Iowa counties south of Interstate 80. The main threat from the storms was high winds.
The storm brought high winds, causing corn twisting in some areas in southwest Iowa.
According to the National Weather Service, a 62-mile per wind gust was reported four miles northeast of Red Oak at 8:22 a.m., and a 63-mile per hour wind gust four miles east of Afton. A tree was down in Orient and Winterset.
