(Harlan) The Harlan Cyclones, last season’s Class 3A state runner-up, is loaded with talent and ranked number 1 in many preseason polls.
Harlan finished the 2020 campaign with an 11-1 record and returned an outstanding receiving core of Connor Frame, Aidan Hall, Joey Moser, and Will McLaughlin. One year ago, this foursome combined for over 2,400 yards receiving.
Harlan Head Coach Todd Bladt says they talk about the preseason ranking a little bit, but he points to an example of what can happen to a team ranked atop the class in the preseason.
Coach Bladt says they focus on the next play at hand and that the next play is the kickoff against Lewis Central on Friday night.
Coach Bladt says labels Lewis Central as a buzz-saw.
Bladt says Lewis Central will use their size and speed on the offensive line and establish the line of scrimmage.
Bladt says several players are vying for some spots on the offensive line, and he is waiting to see who rises during the game on Friday. The same goes for the tailback position. He’ll use players like Willy Kenkel, Brad Curren, and Noah Schmitz.
Teagen Kasperbauer returns at quarterback. The junior had an outstanding season as a sophomore, completing 52-percent of his passes for 2,621 yards and 24-touchdowns.
Coach Bladt says there will be a lot of talent on the field when these two teams clash on Friday night at Harlan. He says it’s going to come down to making plays.
