(Atlantic) Carroll defeated Atlantic in three sets Tuesday night in high school volleyball, winning 25-21, 25-12, and 25-17.
The Tigers served 69-of-73 for a 94.7 percent success rate, including five aces. Analia Ayala led Carroll in kills, Payton Mohr recorded 16 digs, and Kyla Owen finished with three blocks.
Carroll pulled away late in the opening set after the teams battled to a 10-10 tie. Atlantic’s Emerie Jones recorded two key blocks early to help keep the Trojans within reach.
Trailing 20-15, Atlantic rallied to cut the deficit to 22-21. However, Carroll closed the set with four consecutive points to take the 25-21 win.
The Tigers carried that momentum into the second set, broke a 2-2 tie, and built a 19-10 lead with a 6-0 run. Carroll closed out the set on a 6-2 run to win 25-12.
Atlantic continued to battle in the third set, tying it at 11-11 before Carroll broke away with a 9-0 run. The Tigers maintained control the rest of the way, securing the 25-17 victory and completing the three-set sweep.
Atlantic travels to Harlan on September 29. Carroll travels to Clarinda on Thursday, September 24.
