(Guthrie Center, IA) — District play begins tonight in Class A as Southwest Valley visits AC/GC, coverage on KSOM.
Both teams are undefeated — Southwest Valley has beaten Panorama 35-18 and last week topped Red Oak 34-7. Senior Walker Bissell and Junior Wyatt Shires lead the offense — Shires had 149 yards rushing against the Panthers while Bissell added 81. Bissell had 121 yards against the Tigers and Shires added 60. However, the Timberwolves were able to discover a passing game last week as the QB Shires was 7 of 15 passing for 207 yards, 3 TD and 1 INT. Head Coach Keegan Longabuagh longs for offensive balance
The defense limited Red Oak to just 72 yards total — just 55 on the ground. Junior Defensive End Kaden Greenwalt had a big game against Red Oak with 7 tackles with 4 TFLs and a QB sack
Southwest Valley will need Greenwalt and everybody on the defensive side to have a big game as they face the Chargers vaunted running attack. AC/GC may have a new Head Coach in Will Shull but it was the same ole story last week amassing 463 rushing yards in a 53-7 win over Panorama. Longabaugh says they are well disciplined
The triple option of AC/GC puts a lot of pressure on everybody to stay at home, handle their assignments and trust the guy next to you to do his job
AC/GC and Panorama were actually tied after the first quarter 7-7 but Shull says they made some adjustments and started to open things up
Shull is using a rotation at fullback and Morgun Nolte and Lane Stringer combined for 26 carries for 160 yards (Nolte 87 and Stringer 73). Ryder Cline had 9 carries for 49 yards; Ryan Martens 5 carries for 48 yards; but it was Sophomore QB Andrew Baumert who had the break out game with 17 carries for 167 yards and 4 TD. Shull cannot be more happier with his play
Of the 6 turnovers forced against Panorama, Will Skram had three interceptions. Shull says he just has a knack of finding the football
Shull knows that with Southwest Valley, his defense cannot focus on just one guy
