(Audubon, IA) — District play begins in 8 Man and Griswold football has as tough a challenge as it gets with a visit to #1 Audubon tonight.
The Wheelers thumped Remsen St. Mary’s 74-30 to open the season last week — Aiden Kjergaard rushed for 298 yards and 7 TD plus threw for two more. Wheelers Head Coach Sean Birks would not like to use him for 23 carries in a game and would prefer to involve some of his other weapons but some of those plays were RPOs or run pass options which is a big part of Audubon’s offense
Audubon did give up four touchdowns in the first half to the Hawks. Birks says Remsen uses a lot of motion to deceive the defense and they have to do a better job of seeing the offense
With Griswold, the main focus for Audubon’s defense will be their QB Dain Laverty says Birks
Griswold is coming off a 48-22 loss to Stanton-Essex. Laverty was 10 of 17 passing for 121 yards and 1 TD but had 3 INT. Rushing, the Junior had 14 carries for 113 yards and 2 scores. Head Coach Seth Lembke says Laverty’s running game has improved
The Vikings scored 28 points in the 2nd quarter to lead 28-14 at the half. The Tigers continue to be plagued by penalties which Lemke is addressed earlier in the week
Griswold is obviously a huge underdog in this game but they have no chance to win if they give up big plays which Lembke says Audubon can rack up in bunches
