(Des Moines, IA) — The number of measles cases in Iowa are continuing to rise. Iowa Health and Human Services reports 22 cases as of Thursday, with evidence of person-to-person contact. Most of the reported cases are in southern Iowa. HHS has released a list of possible exposure locations in the Des Moines metro, Ottumwa, and Bloomfield between late July and mid-August.
One Suspect In Custody Following Shooting In Merle Hay Neighborhood
(Des Moines, IA) — A woman accused of shooting and injuring another woman in Des Moines has been arrested. Police say the victim was shot at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday on Urbandale Avenue and the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Keona [[ key-AH-nuh ]] Campbell, fled the scene. Police say she was placed under arrest after a 911 caller near the scene reported she was hiding on their property. Campbell faces charges of attempted murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
Record Number Of Acres Enrolled In Greater Des Moines Watershed Program
(Des Moines, IA) — A record number of acres have been enrolled in the Greater Des Moines Watershed Program. The program is aimed at improving water quality in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers. More than 300-thousand acres across 22 counties were enrolled this year, more than double the total from 2025. The program offers farmers and landowners up to 25-dollars per acre in cost-share assistance to plant cover crops on up to 500 acres. State officials say cover crops reduce soil erosion and runoff, improving soil health and helping protect drinking water across central Iowa.
Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force Issues Final Report
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Nuclear Energy Task Force has released its final report on opportunities for advancing nuclear energy in Iowa. In its final report, the Task Force concluded that Iowa is in a good position to develop nuclear energy and included nine recommendations to prepare the state for the advancement of nuclear energy. The report also says Iowa has the necessary elements to become a leader in nuclear energy as it develops in the Midwest. The Task Force was created in January and has met seven times over the course of five months.
Alcohol Sales At ISU Home Football Games Start Tomorrow
(Ames, IA) — Iowa State football starts tomorrow with a game against Southeast Missouri at Jack Trice Stadium, but game day might be a little different this year. Tomorrow’s game will be the first with permitted alcohol sales inside Jack Trice. ISU Athletics says beer, wine, and pre-made cocktails will be available for purchase, with a limit of two per person per sale. The change comes with some tightened security — re-entry will not be allowed at Jack Trice any time during the game. Iowa State University says some of the proceeds from alcohol sales will go toward public safety and student wellness programs.
