(Avoca, IA) — Harlan and Avoca are only separated by 16 miles and yet the two softball teams have played just four times in recent memory — they will face off tonight with coverage on KSOM.
Both teams lost their openers last night — Creston beat Harlan in a doubleheader 14-7 and 11-7. The Cyclones had to play without one of their two seniors Lauren Schmitz who played in Harlan’s soccer regional win over Red Oak. Schmitz brings offense (.319) and an experienced arm in the circle (5.22 ERA). Head Coach Nolan Heese says she and the other senior Rebekah Christensen bring a lot to the team

Juniors Aubree Wegner, Taylor Heese and Avery Mantz will also give the Cyclones plenty of offense. Harlan will need consistency with their pitching and defense — last year the team fielding percentage was .897 and the team ERA was 7.08.
