(Simpsonville, KY) — History continued for the Iowa State women’s golf team Wednesday as the Cyclones qualified for the NCAA National Championships for the second-straight season and the third time in program history.
Entering the NCAA Louisville Regional as the No. 3 seed, Iowa State finished tied for fourth place with a 54-hole score of 855 to secure a spot in the national championships, which will be held May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
The Cyclones closed the regional with a final-round 292 and set a new program record for the lowest 54-hole NCAA score, surpassing the previous mark of 860 set in 2023. The fourth-place regional finish ranks as the second-best NCAA Regional finish in school history behind last season’s third-place finish in Lubbock.
Sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon paced Iowa State by tying for 13th overall with a three-round score of 214, tying for the fourth-best NCAA score in program history. Pinprayoon carded three birdies on the front nine during the final round.
Seniors Pammy Chookaew and Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn each shot even-par 72s in the final round and tied for 20th overall at 215. Their three-round totals are tied for the sixth-best NCAA scores in school history. Chookaew recorded three birdies in the final round, while Chul-Ak-Sorn added two and led the entire field on par-5 scoring at 4.33 strokes under par.
Isabella Yan and Alexandra Vidal both tied for 30th overall with 217 totals. Yan fired a 75 in the final round, while Vidal shot a 76. Yan birdied two of her first four holes, and Vidal posted three birdies over her first six holes.
No. 7 Auburn captured the regional title with an 847, finishing six shots ahead of Houston. Iowa State tied No. 19 Ole Miss for fourth place at 855, five strokes ahead of sixth-place Purdue.
The Cyclones finished the tournament with 49 birdies, tied for the third-most in the field, while their 177 pars ranked second overall.
