(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa Gymnastics Head Coach Larissa Libby has officially resigned from her position after spending more than 20 years with the program. This comes after she was placed on paid administrative leave after the program was being investigated by the Education and Sports Law Group.
Libby carried Iowa to multiple top 25 team finishes on a national, including 24 straight NCAA Regional appearances and a 2021 Big Ten regular season title. She was named a three-time Big Ten and two-time NCAA Regional Coach of the Year and coached a total of 12 WGCA All-Americans and six first-team All-Americans. Not only did her athletes perform well in competition, but they also were competitive in the classroom with 51 student-athletes earning Academic All-America honors 51 times.
“My time at Iowa has been a tremendous journey. Filled with amazing people, immense growth, and incredible firsts. Joining this Athletic Department under Dr Christine Grant as a young coach was one of the best decisions I have made and one that essentially shaped the course of my career.”
The now-former head coach started to be investigated back in March after multiple staff members and athletes were concerned with Libby and the environment within the program. The review has been completed but has not been released to the public. If any further information is released, we will have it for you right on westerniowatoday.com.
