(Iowa City, IA) – Iowa’s senior day was more than a success as the #6 Iowa Hawkeyes were able to clinch a win over #2 Ohio State Buckeyes 93-83. This finished off Iowa’s season at 26-4 overall as they sit at 15-3 in Big Ten action.
While this game was an important competition for both Iowa and Ohio State, all eyes were on Caitlin Clark. The All-American broke LSU’s Pete Maravich’s all-time record as the leading scorer in NCAA Division-I basketball with 3,685 points. Clark had a total of 35 points on the night and while not finishing with a double-double, Clark finished with nine assists and also had six boards on the day.
Hannah Stuelke also had to get on in the action as she knocked down 23 points while grabbing nine boards and knocking away a block. Gabbie Marshall also had double-digits on the day with 12 points and shot 4-8 from the field. Behind Marshall was Kate Martin who had 11 points and nine rebounds, just short of a double-double.
Ohio State was led on the day by Jacy Sheldon who had 24 points and dished out nine assists. Right behind Sheldon was Rebeka Mikulsikova who had 14 points and eight rebounds while shooting 5-9 from the field. Taylor Thierry had a total of 11 points on the day while hauling in seven rebounds and swiping away two steals. Cotie McMahon had 10 points alongside Celeste Taylor who also had 10 points.
The Hawkeyes shot 60% from the field while shooting 50% through the third quarter alone. Iowa was also able to outrebound Ohio State 38-31 and outscore the Buckeyes in the paint 42-28. Iowa is now the second seed in the Big Ten tournament and sit at 41-6 in Big Ten action since February 9, 2022.
Iowa will await to see who the Big Ten announces as their opponent in the upcoming conference tournament.
