(Iowa City, IA) – Caitlin Clark has officially done what many players could not even dream of themselves doing, breaking college basketball’s scoring record in today’s game against #2 Ohio State in the first half of action with over 3,668 points. She was fouled and went to the free-throw line to shoot two free-throws at the line and broke the record that was held by Pete Maravich.
Clark finished the game with a total of 35 points on the night and while not finishing with a double-double, Clark finished with nine assists and also had six boards on the day. Lynette Woodard, who formally held the title that Clark broke just last week, was in attendance to cheer on the Iowa superstar.
The thing about this record-breaking performance is that it may be very impressive for the Iowa basketball player, but both Maravich and Woodard broke the record before the creation of the three-point line. Maravich scored a total of 3,667 total points while playing at LSU, a record that had been unbroken for nearly five decades. Clark is not done yet, as she will continue to add more points throughout the second half of today’s competition while the Hawkeyes still have the NCAA Tournament to continue to dive into. Those points may create a new record that will never be broken or even touched.
While this is the final season for Clark in women’s college basketball, the WNBA Draft is coming up and Clark is looking to be going a few states over to the Indiana Fever. This would not only drive fans to the Fever and the WNBA but also help to push Indiana to their first postseason run since the 2016 season.
