(Ames, IA) – In an announcement from Iowa State football head coach Matt Campbell this morning, former North Dakota State offensive coordinator Tyler Roehl has been named the assistant head coach for Iowa State. The West Fargo native was a member of the coaching staff through seven FCS National Titles and won eight Missouri Valley Football Conferences with North Dakota State.
Coach Roehl will be shifting into Jake Waters’ position of coaching the running backs while Waters moves to the quarterbacks coach to work with their young talent. Roehl spent a total of 11 years with the Bison at North Dakota State, five as the offensive coordinator, and with the tight ends and fullbacks. He was able to successfully lead Bison quarterback Trey Lance to a Walter Payton Award with his offense that led in scoring, total offense, and rushing in the nation.
Before coaching, Roehl played at North Dakota State as a running back, rushing for 2,512 yards, and was a CSC All-American. He went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft and signed on with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent.
He moves to Ames with his wife Mary, son Maxwell, and two daughters, Evelyn and Gabrielle.
