(Harlan, IA)- From assistant coach of the Cyclones to head coach before the 2023-24 season for Adam Bendorf, as the former BYU wrestler helped four wrestlers reach the state tournament. Jesse Jens, Spencer Fink, Tytan Frolich, and Brody McKinely all qualified for the state tournament but unfortunately none were able to place on the podium. Looking back on the state tournament and his first season as head coach, Bendorf was more unsatisfied with himself than his wrestlers.
Coach Bendorf mentions how he hasn’t reflected and looked back as much in these last few weeks as he has been overwhelmingly excited about next season and the coming years. When asked about why he’s so excited he cited multiple reasons including support from the Cyclone community, talking with all levels of Harlan wrestling, and more.
While he is excited for next season, he knows that there is still much to work on as a head coach both getting the wrestlers ready to compete and building the culture in the wrestling room. He has looked back on the year and realized how he can improve upon his first year in the big chair at the head of the Cyclone Wrestling table.
While all of this has given him ideas, principals, and conversations to work on coming into next season, both as head coach and as a member of the Cyclone wrestling family, he emphasizes one big thing he wants to keep the same from last season: the fun.
Harlan Wrestling will be back on the mats having fun later this year in November.
