(Geneva, OH)- The first day of the Big 10 Indoor Championships on Friday and multiple Hawkeyes set school records as they prepare for Saturday’s finals. The tally comes down to three broken records and eight program top-10 improvements as ten men’s team and nine women’s team members qualified for Saturday’s finals.
Record No. 1: Senior Paige Magee breaks the school’s best in the 60m hurdles, previously held by her, as she runs a 7.99 and becomes the first Iowa runner to post a time under eight seconds. That’s good enough for the country’s fifth-best time.
Record No. 2: Senior Kallen Walker matches the school record in the 60m dash, also held by him since February, with a time of 6.51. His time ranks him second across the nation.
Record No. 3: Sophomore Sean Smith closes out Friday’s competitions with a second-place earning and school record-breaking weight throw of 22.28 meters. The throw ranks 13th in the nation.
The Big 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday.
