(Elk Horn, IA) – The Exira-EHK Spartans got off to a good start this season in their win over Woodbine 76-60. Exira-EHK rebounded very well in the game while also defending against a very good Woodbine team. Head coach Tony Santisteban was proud of how his team started off the season, especially when it came down to communication on the court.
The Spartans earned their first win of the season but realize that there are leaps and bounds still to be made. Exira-EHK has three 6’4 players who have already shown their rebounding skills this season. Jonas LaCanne, Josh Nelson, and Skylar Traver have already shown to be great rebounders in the past and come into this season keeping up the pace down low.
This season’s goal is communication. If the Spartans can keep up their side of communication, that will only lead to success in the long run. Coach Santisteban talked about how communication will not do everything for the team, but it sure will help in the first steps to creating a successful dynamic.
On Friday, Exira-EHK will be taking on Boyer Valley as both teams currently sit at 1-0 on the season after winning their regular season openers yesterday. This is the part of the season when you aren’t looking for everything to gel as a whole just yet, but rather see the little things come together.
Exira-EHK takes on Boyer Valley on Friday, December 1st at 7:30 p.m. That game will be exclusively live on Western Iowa Today TV powered by Nishnanet and will have Zach Collins and Austin West on the call for both the boys’ and girls’ games.
