(Exira, IA) – In a back-and-forth battle all game, Audubon ends up higher in the scoring column, beating Exira-EHK 62-34. Audubon started off the first two minutes with two touchdowns and never looked back.
The first quarter started off just two minutes in with a 12-0 Audubon lead after two failed two-point conversions. Both touchdowns were from Evan Alt in the first quarter. He also came on to add a second touchdown to end the first 18-0. In the second quarter of action, Exira-EHK started to get into the groove of the game as the Spartans saw their third big drive of the game end up in a Jameson Kilworth rushing touchdown. Audubon got back the ball and earned another touchdown by Aaron Olsen for the lone touchdown of the game for the quarterback to put his team up 26-6 as Audubon converted off their two-point conversion. The Spartans would then edge back into the game as they earned a touchdown of their own with a big throw from Jameson Kilworth to Quintin White for a big touchdown of the game. Audubon’s Evan Alt wasn’t stopping at just three touchdowns, as he ran again to add the fourth and put the Spartans in a position at halftime 32-12.
The second half was where both of these teams had a fire lit underneath them. Exira-EHK started off things with a touchdown from quarterback Jameson Kilworth as he rushed on the outside and had great blocking coverage from his offensive line. That put the Spartans within 12 as they scored off a two-point conversion. Audubon looked to answer things back with an Evan Alt touchdown or make that three Evan Alt touchdowns in the second half alone. He was beyond explosive on the field and got excellent blocking coverage upfront from Colton Hansen, Clay VanAernam, and Logan Schmidt.
Exira-EHK was just able to add on more in the fourth quarter with an Alex Hansen rushing touchdown while earning another touchdown in the receiving game. Quintin White found Alex Hansen wide-open at the 10-yard line and threw to him for a big touchdown. Audubon was also able to add another touchdown toward the end of the game with a breakaway play from Colin Hardl to finish things off in the competition as the Wheelers won 62-34.
Aaron Olsen went 6-7 for 68 yards and rushed for 52 yards while earning a rushing touchdown. Austin Christensen led in tackles with 12 while earning two tackles for loss. Edward Miller had 48 receiving yards on two receptions to lead in the receiving game for Audubon. One player that really stood out to the state of Iowa was Evan Alt. The senior had the game of his life with a total of seven touchdowns for 281 yards. Coach Birks was impressed with what he saw out of Alt in this game tonight and stuck with his plan all game long.
Exira-EHK was led by Jameson Kilworth as the quarterback rushed for two touchdowns and earned a passing touchdown with the look to Quintin White downfield in the first half. Leading the night in the receiving game was Bryce Brabham as he just played lights out in their pushback into the game and also earned the play of the game with a big receiving play that led to the Quintin White touchdown. Alex Hansen was impressive, to say the least in the rushing game with over 70 rushing yards and earned a rushing touchdown while also earning a receiving touchdown.
Audubon (2-1) will play St. Edmond next Friday while Exira-EHK (1-2) will battle Sidney in their next matchups.
