(Red Oak, IA) – Red Oak started out week one of football action with a nail-biter as they lost to the Southwest Valley Timberwolves 34-31. Coach Nordeen is looking to get his team to play all four quarters with full momentum. The Tigers gave up 21 points to the Timberwolves in the third quarter and are looking to eliminate those errors in week two.
Masen Fisher threw for 242 yards against Southwest Valley and threw three touchdowns, but also had three turnovers in the game. The sophomore has some inexperience but has been making things happen on the offensive end. He had some help from Adam Baier in the receiving game as he had 82 receiving yards for one touchdown and 204 rushing yards for two touchdowns. Coach Nordeen is looking for his offense to keep up the pressure in week two.
Coach Nordeen is looking for Brayden Sifford to make an even bigger impact this week as he rushed for 41 yards and had three kick returns for 53 yards. Ethan Fouts had a big receiving touchdown for 84 yards on his only reception of the game. Baz Clear is another player that we will see step up as he had four tackles and one sack.
Red Oak will be taking on a Clarinda team that beat Shenandoah 42-7 last week and is a team that relies on the rushing game. The Cardinals had 289 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns all on the backs of Dominick Polsley, Noah Harris, and Karson Downey. Clarinda primarily relies on their throwing game for the longer plays, as Noah Harris went 4-6 with two touchdowns for 82 total yards in the game. The Tigers are looking to come and play against a tough Clarinda opponent.
Red Oak will be at home under the lights at Russ Benda Field against Clarinda at 7:00 p.m.
