(Des Moines, IA) — A bill regarding abortions in Iowa could become law as early as the end of this week. The Iowa state Senate late Tuesday approved a bill that would ban nearly all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The late night vote came after a marathon single-day session of the Legislature that featured commentary from both supporters and opponents of the bill. The legislation that was passed would ban abortions after a heartbeat is detected. Iowa’s current law allows abortions up to 20 to 22 weeks depending on the situation. Governor Reynolds has announced she will sign the bill into law on Friday.
