(Oakland, IA) — AHSTW football will make the short 13 mile drive down Highway 59 tonight to face arch-rival Riverside tonight, coverage on KSOM.
The Vikings are 2-1 with wins over Red Oak and Missouri Valley and a close loss to Logan Magnolia — they will likely have to play without starting quarterback Dayton Osbahr who Head Coach Davis Pattee says is doubtful. The likely starter will be Freshman Taylen Hansen but Pattee says there are other candidates as well
Hansen has gotten a lot of snaps at the varsity level and is 6 of 8 passing for 103 yards and 2 TD plus has 71 yards rushing and a score. This might be his break out chance and Pattee says he has great physical gifts
The Vikings will continue to use a number of different running backs — Freshman Boston Harris, Sophomore Kooper Krummel, and Senior Sam Sturm will all get carries. Junior Evan Harder leads the team in receptions for 13 for 206 yards and 2 TD. On defense, Pattee says they have used as many as 18 different players in a rotation and its been a total team effort
Pattee has compliments for Riverside and the scheme they present and he says stopping the Bulldogs starts with stopping the big play ability of Cole Jeppesen
Riverside has two wins over Mount Ayr and Red Oak and a close OT loss to Treynor. Cole Jeppesen has 145 yards rushing and a TD; 245 yards receiving and 3 TD; and a 54 yard punt return for a TD. Meanwhile, Peyton Amdor is coming off his best passing game of the season last week against the Raiders — 331 yards and 3 TD all to Jeppesen. Bulldogs Head Coach Tyler Johannsen says Amdor has grown into the position each week
Johannsen believes his team has shown some toughness and grit in their first three games
Johannsen says that the Vikings have a strong crew of lineman on both sides of the ball
Both coaches downplayed the rivalry; Johannsen says the game comes down to execution of the fundamentals
