A Celebration of Life Visitation for 75-year-old Arma Re “Amy” Roby will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
Amy was born June 24, 1947, to Raymond William and Della (Nelson) Fouts in Dunlap, Iowa. During her early years, her family was very active in all church activities at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunlap. A lively personality from the start, she was a Powder Puff Girl in the 1960’s and after her family moved to Denison, Iowa, she graduated from Denison High School in 1965. She then attended beauty school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, completing her course and obtaining her licenses as both a barber and beautician. Amy worked in various salons in southwest Iowa before getting involved in healthcare as a CNA/CMA and eventually receiving her Health Care Administration Degree from Caplan University in Mason City, Iowa. All the while, she was a mother to five children, which she considered her greatest accomplishment. While in Mason City, she met Ricky Roby and moved to Atlantic, where she wed Ricky and could be closer to family.
Amy was artistic, enjoying painting, crafts, and dressing the part with exciting jewelry and fun hats. She will be remembered for her excellent divinity candy and love for Elvis Presley. But time with family and friends was a joy to her as she often sent food and necessities to friends and family. She could also be found at the Pompeii slots at any of the local casinos from time to time. Her strong and free-spirited personality propelled her to do life on her terms and to the fullest.
Amy is survived by her husband, Rick Roby of Atlantic; sons, Shannon (Maria) Smith of Fremont, Nebraska, Slade (Angel) Smith of Saucier, Mississippi, and Edward (Jen) Sharp of Mason City, Iowa; daughters, Almyra Sharp of Mason City, Iowa and Eddye (Joe) Sharp of Atlantic; numerous grandchildren; her brother, Kirlyn (Eric) Fouts of Peyton, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
