(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources issues swimming advisories for seven State Parks in Southwest Iowa. The main threat is high levels of E. coli.
The seven Lakes include Prairie Rose State Park in Shelby County. Springbrook State Park in Guthrie County. Lake Anita in Cass County, Green Valley Lake State Park in Union County, Lake Manawa in Pottawattamie County, Viking Lake State Park in Montgomery County, and Lake of Three Fires State Park in Taylor County.
Routine water quality monitoring is conducted at all Iowa State Park beaches and many locally managed beaches. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources works with public health and management agencies across the state to provide the public with the most current water quality conditions and help protect the health of beach visitors.
Beach monitoring and standard swimming advisories are generally conducted during Iowa’s primary beach recreation season, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Water quality results for individual beaches are published as soon as they become available.
