(Elk Horn) The Exira-EHK School Board has set a Public Hearing date for April 11th for their 2022-23 Budget.
Superintendent Trevor Miller says the tax rate will decline 15 cents from last year. “Our budget is looking really good. We’ve adjusted a few things and are trying to get creative.” Miller says, “All things are pointing in the right direction financially so that’s a plus.”
The school board on Monday approved raises for certified teacher salaries, support staff salaries, and administration. Miller says the increase is 3.42%. “We also had a 7% increase in insurance that the district will be covering so if you look at overall total it’s probably about 4.5%, but the salary that everyone can negotiate now is going to be 3.42%.” Miller says they’ve been, “Trying to catch up the Exira-EHK pay scale with some of the surrounding ones.”
The cafeteria floor is being replaced in the Elk Horn building and a contract for asbestos removal was approved by the school board this week. “I think it’s been in place since the 1970’s or early ’80’s. Under that we found out that the tape that’s holding the tile down has asbestos in it. So we have to do the asbestos removal before we put the new tile down. We are looking to make it more like the Spartan colors with gray and maroon, it just kind of depends what colors we can get in during the time frame because everything is on back order.”
The board approved several personnel moves. Resignations include: Ana Belen Munoz Martin (Spanish Teacher), Alexis Velky (3rd Grade Teacher), Sharry Schrier (Kindergarten Teacher), and Katie Boehm (5th Grade Teacher). New hires include: Paige Gaskill (3rd Grade Teacher) and Stacey Young (Kindergarten Teacher).
