(Story County) Two people died in a three-vehicle crash in Story County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 1:49 p.m. on Tuesday, on Interstate 35 southbound near the 106-mile marker. Authorities say 81-year old Gordon Martens and 79-year old Nora Martens, both from Van Meter, died in the crash.
According to the report, a southbound 2007 Peterbilt semi driven by 32-year old Matthew Rewiltzer of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, failed to stop at a safe distance for a 2016 GMC Canyon driven by Gordon Martens, and a 2005 GMC Econoline Van that slowed down due to traffic congestion. The semi also struck another semi, and two additional semis, and a van during the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
