(Clarinda) One person was transported to the hospital following a three-vehicle accident in Page County Tuesday afternoon.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Stacy Lynn Hale, of rural Clarinda, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am westbound on Highway 2 and had slowed down to turn left onto M Avenue. 30-year-old Dustin Donald Paul Thompson, of rural Villisca, was driving a 2018 Chevrolet 3500 pickup westbound on Highway 2, following the Hale vehicle. Thompson said that he was distracted by one of the occupants in a seat behind him and didn’t see the Hale vehicle slowing. Thompson’s vehicle rear-ended Hale’s vehicle. The rear driver’s side portion of Thompson’s vehicle then went to the south and struck a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 74-year-old Judith Kay Clark of Clarinda. Hale’s vehicle travelled across the eastbound lane of Highway 2 and came to rest in the ditch. Thompson’s vehicle came to rest on the north shoulder. Clark’s vehicle came to rest on the south shoulder.
Hale was transported to the Clarinda Regional Health Center for possible injuries by Clarinda Ambulance Service.
Thompson was issued a citation for Following Too Closely.
Clarinda Fire Department and Clarinda Ambulance Service assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the accident scene.
The damage to Hale’s Grand Am was estimated at $5,000; the damage to Thompson’s pickup was estimated at $10,000; the damage to Clark’s Pacifica was estimated at $7,000.
