(Carroll) Carroll Head Football Coach Craig Rowedder says the Tigers are taking a businesslike approach to Friday night’s road game against Atlantic, as they have all season. Carroll is 7-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, while the Trojans are 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the district. With a district title on the line, both teams have plenty at stake.
Atlantic and Carroll are both run-heavy teams. The Trojans have rushed for 1,833 yards and passed for 707 yards. The Tigers have rushed for 2,212 yards and passed for 734 yards. Rowedder says the two teams have similar coaching philosophies.
Rowedder says the team that plays with the most physicality will come out on top.
Turnovers could also be a factor. Carroll has intercepted nine passes and recovered five fumbles. Atlantic has recovered seven fumbles and intercepted seven passes.
Special teams could also play a role in the matchup. The Trojans have recorded two kickoff returns and one punt return this season. In the kicking game, Zander Killion is averaging 42.2 yards per punt. He has made 20 of 25 point-after attempts and 2 of 4 field-goal attempts, with a 37-yard long.
For Carroll, Trevyn Childress has an 83-yard kickoff return. Nolan Stitz has punted eight times for an average of 31 yards, while Adam Malik has punted seven times for an average of 37 yards.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday at Trojan Bowl. KS95.7 FM will broadcast the game, and it will be livestreamed at westerniowatoday.com.
