(NAFB News Service) September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, spread hope, and spark meaningful action around one of the most urgent mental health issues of our time. The topic is even more acute on the farm, as suicide rates are as much as three-and-a-half times greater in rural America than in urban areas. But good work is being done to reach those who need help, someone to talk to. Sarah Gideon, Executive Director at Health Innovations Network of Kansas, says the stigma of mental illness is still a factor that holds people back from getting that help.
Gideon says that to bypass that stigma, they began integrating care services.
She says they also use discreet distribution to get the word out.
