(Atlantic) Atlantic native Darrian Schwenke continues his trek across the state of Iowa in support of veterans’ mental and physical health.
Schwenke’s project, “Course of Action,” began this week at the Missouri River. Over the course of two to three weeks, he plans to walk across the state carrying his golf clubs, documenting the experience before ending his journey at the Mississippi River.
KSOM/KS95 News caught up with Schwenke during his stop at the Lewis Freedom Rock just before noon Friday.
Along the route, Schwenke plans to stop in five Iowa communities, where he will play a round of golf with a local veteran. The filmed rounds will give veterans an opportunity to share their experiences in the military, their transition back to civilian life and stories of resilience.
Anyone is welcome to join Schwenke for a portion of the walk. He is expected to make his way through Atlantic Saturday, tentatively between 8 and 9 a.m.
To follow Schwenke’s journey, search for “Project Course of Action” on social media. A GoFundMe page has also been established to raise funds for the project. Any funds remaining after the project will be donated to the organizations Schwenke has partnered with.
