(Adair Co.) A Lewis teenager died after suffering injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash late Saturday night in rural Adair County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred on Brown Avenue in the 1600 block at approximately 11:26 p.m. A 17-year-old from Anita was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox southbound when the SUV left the roadway to the right and entered the ditch, where it traveled before striking a culvert. The impact caused the vehicle to roll before coming to rest on its driver’s side.
Authorities said all five occupants were able to exit the vehicle and were transported by private vehicles to Cass County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A 17-year-old passenger from Lewis later succumbed to their injuries. The teen was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office by Schmidt Family Funeral Home.
No names have been released.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
