(Knoxville) — The Atlantic boys’ golf team kicks off postseason play on Wednesday, joining host Knoxville in the Class 3A Sectional Golf Tournament. Other teams in the field include Clarke, Winterset, Chariton, Glenwood, and Creston.
Atlantic and Knoxville are evenly matched this season, both averaging 319 over 18 rounds.
The Trojans are coming off a strong showing last Friday at the Elite Showdown at Legacy Golf Course in Mason City. Atlantic finished third in a competitive field, just one stroke shy of first place. Defending Class 3A state champion Humboldt claimed the top spot with a 306, while Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Atlantic both posted 307. Atlantic also bounced back after a third-place finish at the Hawkeye Ten Conference meet the following week.
Coach Henningsen expressed confidence in her team, noting that strong play will be required to compete against Winterset and a solid Knoxville squad on their home course.
The Class 3A Sectional begins at 10 a.m. at Knoxville. The top three teams will advance to the District Tournament on May 18 at Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
