Alvaro Folgueiras has found a new team to play for his senior season and so as former Hawkeye Owen Freeman. Folgueiras will head to the University of Louisville and Freeman is going to Auburn University to finish out their college basketball careers.
Folgueiras was the hero of the Hawkeyes in the NCAA Tournament, hitting the game winning shot to beat the defending national champion Florida Gators to advance to the Sweet 16. He then had another big game against Nebraska to advance to the Elight Eight. Folgueiras then disappeared against Illinois in the Regional Final, playing only eight minutes and did not score in the loss to the Illini. For the season, the Spaniard averaged 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. The Cardinals are coming off a 24-11 season that included a 2nd round tournament loss to Michigan St. Louisville has been extremely active in the portal — Folgueiras is one of four players that have committed including one of the top players Flory Bidunga of Kanasa, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Other players transferring to Louisville include Karter Knox of Arkansas and Jackson Shelstad of Oregon.
Freeman played two seasons at Iowa before transferring to Creighton after Fran McCaffrey left Iowa City. With the Bluejays, Freeman never really got his season on track after missing time with a knee injury and only averaged 5.0 points and 4,0 rebounds in 26 games. Once again, Freeman went through a coaching change with Greg McDermott announcing his retirement. Freeman joins an Auburn team that went 22-16, missed the NCAA Tournament but won the NIT. Freeman is one of three transfers joining the Tigers with Thomas Dowd of Troy and Bukky Oboye of Santa Clara.
