(Adair Co.) The Adair County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution this morning to vacate a portion of 115th Street.
The vote was 3–2, with Matt Wedemeyer, Michael Christoffersen, and Jerry Walker voting in favor, and Nathan Baier and Jodie Hoadley voting against.
The one-mile stretch of 115th Street is located about half a mile south of Stuart. The east half of the roadway is dirt.
County Engineer Nick Kauffman explained during the hearing how the county reached the point of vacating this portion of the roadway.
While some landowners along that stretch of roadway supported vacating it, others opposed the move. One resident even presented a petition to keep the road open.
Supervisor Jodie Hoadley said the roadway is in her district and she has been “getting hammered” by the people in the district.
Hoadley said she spoke with several people, including the postal carrier in the area, the West Central Valley School District transportation director, farmers, and heavy equipment operators, all of whom want to keep the roadway open and bring it up to a Level A standard.
Supervisor Jerry Walker….
County Engineer Nick Kauffman said the total cost to rock a roadway is about $30,000 per mile.
Again, the Supervisors ultimately voted 3–2 to vacate a portion of 115th Street south of Stuart.
