(Montezuma, Iowa) Authorities in Poweshiek County report that two people were discovered deceased inside a vehicle submerged in a drainage pond near Montezuma, Iowa.
According to the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted around 9 a.m. Saturday, a vehicle was submerged in a pond just north of Lake Silverado. Upon arriving at the scene, responders confirmed the vehicle was submerged and later determined that two individuals were inside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims have been transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. Their identities have not yet been released.
Officials say the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional information may be shared as it becomes available. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Montezuma Fire and Ambulance, Poweshiek County Emergency Management, and the Poweshiek County Medical Examiner.
