(Bronson, Iowa) Multiple fire departments responded to a wildfire raging across several miles in northwest Iowa on Saturday.
According to the press release, at approximately 3:47 p.m. on March 28, 2026, Hinton Fire and Rescue was requested by Sergeant Bluff Fire and Rescue to assist with a large grass fire near Bronson, Iowa. Hinton responded with Command-1, Brush-1, Brush-2, and Tanker-35.
Because of the size of the fire, additional departments were called in from Woodbury, Plymouth, Cherokee, and Monona counties, along with neighboring agencies from Nebraska and South Dakota.
Driven by strong winds and extremely dry conditions, the fire spread rapidly across several miles. Multiple structures were lost, including homes, machine sheds, vehicles, and farm equipment.
Hinton Fire Chief Cameron Pierce says this incident highlights the importance of following burn bans. Dry conditions and high winds can quickly cause fires to grow out of control, as seen in this case.
Hinton Fire Rescue extends its thoughts and prayers to the Lawton-Bronson community and all those affected by this devastating fire.
