(Coon Rapids, IA) — Coon Rapids Bayard boys basketball will look for their first appearance in the state tournament since 2010 as they battle Boyden Hull in a Substate Final on Saturday night. The Crusaders are 23-1 and led by All-State Senior Cal Heydon averaging 23.6 points per game and had 29 in the district final win over Audubon. However, it was Junior Bryce Lewis who gave CRB a spark hitting three threes in the first quarter to give the Crusaders an early spark. Head Coach Seth Streebin says Lewis has been coming on as of late and when he is hitting his shots, the team can be very dangerous
While Coon Rapids Bayard can score points in bunches, Streebin says the defense has a big key in the playoffs
While CRB has not been to the Casey’s Center in a while, Boyden Hull has been to state 20 times and to the finals 10 times including 4 state titles. The Comets are 17-7 this season and are led by Senior Carter Kleinwolterink who averages 18.4 ppg and Streebin says his game resembles Ben Ramsey of IKM Manning. There is also Junior Jakob Pottebaum at 14.9 ppg and Senior Garret Van Es at 12.7 ppg. The Crusaders lost to Woodbine in the Substate Finals last year and Streebin says his guys are motivated to not let that happen this year
Coon Rapids Bayard meets Boyden Hull at Sioux City East High School tomorrow night.
