(Anita, IA) — CAM and Nodaway Valley opened their baseball season on Tuesday night and the Cougars came away with a 10-5 victory.
Carson McKee did some solid pitching in the first five innings and the Cougars took advantage of 8 Wolverine errors.
McKee led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a RBI grounder from Zach Kaufman to get CAM on the board.
The Cougars erupted for 5 runs in the third inning off Nodaway Valley starter Ty Strode. Cohen McCann started with a 1 out double down the left field line. McKee followed with a double to right. McCann stopped at third but scored on a pickoff attempt at third. McKee scored when Collin Bower reached on a two out error. Kason Calhoun singled in a run and Calen Anstey drove in two more runs with a single.
McKee set down Nodaway Valley in order in the 4th and 5th innings. In the bottom of the 5th, CAM scored three more runs on just one hit — a RBI single from Braxton Dennis plus a wild pitch, passed ball, a hit batter and four walks from the Wolverines. Remington Woosley came in to relieve Strode and got Kaufman to fly out to left to end the inning with CAM holding a 9-0 lead.
It was CAM’s turn to make mistakes as McKee gave up three walks in the top of the 6th. Titan Foster got a leadoff walk, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and scored on a bad throw. Woolsey and Strode both got on base and scored on a bases loaded walk and RBI grounder.
Both teams added runs in the 7th inning but CAM’s lead was too much for Nodaway Valley.
