(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Supervisors had to address a vacancy as the Guthrie County Attorney has resigned.
Dana Minter has turned in her resignation, effective May 31. There was no reason given but the timing is unusual with the June 2nd primary — there are two Republicans running for County Attorney and no Democrats. Therefore, the winner between the current assistant Charles Abel and Joel Baxter will run unopposed for Attorney this November. The question is who will be the County Attorney in the Interim? The supervisors must make a replacement within 40 days of the resignation and Brian Johnson does not want to wait
Maggie Armstrong agrees to act on a replacement sooner rather than later
Johnson eventually made a motion to fill the Attorney’s position next Tuesday, May 26th. The motion passed 4-1 with Mike Dickson objecting, wanting to wait until after the Primary.
The Supervisors also held a Budget Amendment public hearing and there were no public comments so they passed the amendment 5-0.
The Supervisors also approved the use of the Guthrie County courthouse grounds for the All Iowa Republican Women to read the Declaration of Independence on June 19 at 11 am.
