(Atlantic) The City of Atlantic is gearing up for a significant construction project on Main Street.
Dave Sturm from Snyder and Associates, the engineering firm for the project, recently met with the general contractor and their subcontractor. He announced that work on some minor improvements is expected to begin late this week, including curb replacement, storm sewer installation, and possibly sidewalk work. For at least the next couple of weeks, no streets will be closed.
The street project will cover Chestnut and Walnut Streets, from 7th Street to the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce building at the north end of Main Street.
“We expect the streets to close in mid-July,” said Sturm. “We will be working with the contractor to finalize those dates soon.”
During the milling phase of the project, a maximum of two blocks will be closed at a time. “The closures will be moving as the equipment progresses,” explained Sturm. “We will ask the public to help by removing vehicles from the parking stalls.”
Sturm indicated that intermittent street closures will occur throughout July and August. He mentioned that the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of August, depending on weather conditions.
