Jimmie Lynn Smith, age 85, of Griswold, IA passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 11 days.
Jim was born on 6/26/1939 to Harold and Lucille Smith in Elliott. After Jim graduated from Griswold High School in 1957, he went on to work at Western Electric in Omaha for 10 years. During his time at Western Electric he met Joy Hallet, his future wife. In 1961 he was drafted and served two years in the army. He was stationed in Germany where Joy joined him. He started farming in 1968 and continued until he retired around 2003. Farming was not only his occupation but passion and hobby as well.
Jim and Joy went on to have 3 children- Brian, Diane and Carol.
After retirement, Jim enjoyed reading, watching his beloved New York Yankees play, and spending time outside on the farm with various pets.
Jim was predeceased by his father Harold and mother Lucille. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Joy, son Brian Smith (Deniese), Diane Halbur (Todd), Carol Beebe (Dell), grandchildren Evan Smith, Addison Smith, Jack Halbur, Ben Halbur, Garrett Beebe, Faith Beebe, brother Mike Smith (Pam), and other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A masonic service for Jim will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 6:00 PM, at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. This will be followed by visitation with the family until 7:30 PM. A memorial service will be held at Griswold Church of Christ on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at the Griswold Central Church of Christ in Griswold. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Griswold Fire and Rescue. Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
