(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Extension from 10 to 15 years.
Christina Bateman, President of Vision Atlantic, spoke to the board Wednesday night about their plan to stop the decline in population in the City of Atlantic with expanding affordable childcare, quality of life amenities with an expansion of the existing YMCA, and a 46-acre housing development at the corner of 22nd and Olive Streets.
Bateman said the City of Atlantic has the ability to do the TIF through year ten and then after that the County Supervisors and School Board have to agree to extend that TIF for the remaining five years. The Board of Supervisors have already voted to approve the TIF extension.
In other news, Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen reported that they were awarded a robotics grant
Dr. Johnsen said they will now need to look into hiring a robotics coach.
Dr. Johnsen also mentioned that she had a family request to have Rodeo as a school activity. She said she brought this to the board to see if they wanted to consider other activities outside of just the normal athletic association programs that are sanctioned. The Board will hold a further discussion on this during their Work Session later this month.
