(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for southwest Iowa from 1:00 p.m. this afternoon to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Heat index values are expected to reach 103 degrees, which may lead to heat-related illnesses. While heat index values may not reach 105 degrees each day, the combination of the heat’s persistence and limited overnight relief, with warm overnight lows, has prompted the multi-day Heat Advisory.
The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors.
