(Shelby Co) Dr. Daniel Kinney, President of Iowa Western Community College, spoke to the Shelby County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday about the public measure appearing on the November 5th General Election ballot.
According to the meeting minutes, Dr. Kinney noted that local demand for particular trade education creates the need for more classroom capacity. CDL courses, diesel mechanics, auto repair, plumbing, HVAC, and logistics personnel demand have made overcrowding of classrooms at Iowa Western a problem.
He said the public measure for $55 million will not increase the levy rate for the Iowa Western debt requirements in the coming years because of debt that is being retired and assessed values.
In other news, the Supervisors approved a wage increase of $2,500 yearly for Interim EMS Director Jordon Sanders. Meanwhile, EMA coordinator Alex Londo has been named EMS Assistant Director as the EMS Advisory Council recommended.
The Supervisors approved two road right-of-way utility permits from Nishnabotna Valley REC and a resolution establishing stop signs, including a one-way stop sign, at the intersection of Yellowwood Road and 600th Street. The stop sign will be placed on the southeast corner of the intersection, causing all northbound traffic on Yellowwood Road to come to a complete stop.
