John Lee Belvins, age 86, of Atlantic, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, IA.
John was born on June 28, 1937, to Henry Head and Dorothy Coyle in Little Rock, Arkansas. His mother remarried in 1942 to John Blevins, and they had several children together. He was the oldest of four siblings. John joined the United States Air Force after high school and served most of his time at Offutt Airforce Base.
John enjoyed his time in the Air Force and would tell many stories about the time he served. He drove for many trucking companies over the years and thoroughly enjoyed trucking over the road. He loved making surprise visits to see his grandchildren while passing through towns. Near the end of his days, he enjoyed telling stories of his life and remembering memories of times with family and friends. Most would say John had an ornery side, and he lived up to that right until the end.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Coyle) Blevins; his father, John Head; his step-father, John Blevins; his half-sister, Barbara Doyle; half-brother Larry Blevins; his daughter, Michelle Blevins; his son, Scott Blevins; his daughter, Diane Esterday; his nephew, Jeffery Doyle; his granddaughter, Melanie Blevins; great-grandson, Isaiah, and great-granddaughter, Cambrie.
John is survived by his children, Michael (Denise) Blevins, Brian Blevins, Todd (Dixie) Blevins, John (Helen) Blevins Jr., and Juanita Blevins; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
