DNC Rules And Bylaws Committee Denies Iowa Democrats’ Bid for First-In-The-Nation Caucuses
(Des Moines, IA) — The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee is denying the Iowa Democrats’ bid to return the first-in-the-nation democratic caucuses to Iowa. Rita Hart, Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party, calls the decision, announced on Friday, a slap in the face and says it was disappointing, but not surprising. Iowa Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann says the DNC’s decision will not change the Iowa GOP’s plans moving forward and that it is a missed opportunity. The DNC committee selected South Carolina as the state that will lead the party’s 2028 nominating calendar. Earlier this year, representatives from the Iowa Democratic Party made a pitch to the DNC to return first-in-the-nation democratic caucuses to Iowa.
Officer Stabbed In Face During Officer-Involved Shooting Sunday Morning
(Greene County, IA) — An officer was stabbed in the face during an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning. The Green County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just west of Jefferson when officers attempted to stop a driver, who crashed into a ditch after speeding away. Law enforcement says the driver then got out of the car and advanced toward an officer, who shot him. After being shot, the suspect reportedly kept walking and stabbed the officer in the face. The suspect later died at the scene. The officer was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
DMPD Still Looking For 17-Year-Old Girl Missing Since Thursday
(Des Moines, IA) — As of Sunday night, police are still looking for a 17-year-old girl missing since Thursday. Des Moines Police say the girl named Emily left her home on the city’s west side willingly. Investigators believe she could be with adult men and at risk of being exploited. Emily also goes by the name Angel, is brunette, five-foot-six and weighs 110 pounds. Her photo is posted on the police department’s Facebook page. If anyone sees Emily, they are asked to call 9-1-1.
Ames City Council Could Vote On Data Center Construction Delay On Tuesday
(Ames, IA) — The Ames City Council could vote on a data center construction delay tomorrow. City staff say a six-month delay should be enough time to address concerns about zoning, noise, water, electricity and other utility uses. A Des Moines company wants to build a 100-thousand square-foot facility.
Final Leg Of RAGBRAI Ended With Tire Dips In Mississippi
(Dyersville, IA) — Cyclists wrapped up their annual ride across Iowa over the weekend. The final leg of the 53rd RAGBRAI was a 34-mile ride from Dyersville to Dubuque on Saturday. Participants made stops in Farley, Epworth, and Centralia before dipping their tires in the Mississippi River to signify the ride’s end.
