Marlin Lewis, the son of Hamilton James and Mary Louise (King) Lewis, was born July 12, 1939, at his parents’ home in Falcon, Missouri, and died February 13, 2024, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 1 day.
The family moved to Iowa in 1944 and lived on a farm near Emerson, Iowa. Marlin attended rural schools in the area. They then moved to Oakland, Iowa where Marlin graduated from Oakland High School with the Class of 1957. He moved to Panora and was employed by Northern Natural Gas located in Redfield, Iowa.
On August 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Kay Winther at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Mary Kay was teaching school in Boone, Iowa so they moved to Boone and Marlin was employed at the Ogden Truck Stop. Over the years they were blessed with four children, Krista, James, Robert, and Steven. Later they moved to Audubon, Iowa, and moved onto Mary Kay’s grandparent’s farm. In January of 1962, Marlin was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty, he served state-side and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1963, and the family returned to the farm. They grew row crops and raised livestock for many years until Marlin had health issues in 2018. Marlin transcended from a farm hand to the farm manager.
Marlin was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon as an adult where he remained a member. He enjoyed traveling to Chicago on the T-Bone train on several occasions. Marlin enjoyed seeing the many tractors in parades and enjoying donuts and coffee afterward. Marlin loved to farm but more important was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents Hamilton and Mary Louise Lewis; his brother Randall Lewis; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred and Marie Winther; his brothers-in-law Chuck Kauffman and Gary Bald; and his sister-in-law Janice Swesey.
Survivors include his wife Mary Kay Lewis of Audubon, Iowa; his children Krista and husband Brentt Snow of Lineville, Iowa, Jim and wife Shari Lewis, Bob and wife Joyce Lewis, and Steve Lewis all of Audubon, Iowa; his grandchildren Jacob and wife Katelyn Snow and Brittany Snow all of Lineville, Iowa, Taylor and husband Caleb Hanson, Dylan and wife Mackenzie Lewis, and Justina and husband Tony Kohout all of Audubon, Iowa, Samantha and husband Cole “Norty” Ellis of Lineville, Iowa, and Rachel and husband Ryan King of Marshalltown, Iowa; his great grandchildren Blakeleigh Snow of Lineville, Iowa, Rhett Hanson, Baby Boy Lewis, Marshall Kohout, Parker Kohout all of Audubon, Iowa, Keegan Ellis, Dean Ellis and Lillian Ellis all of Lineville, Iowa, and Mila Kay King of Marshalltown, Iowa; his sister Norma and husband Bernie Bolton of Oakland, Iowa, his brother Darrell and wife Bev Lewis of Roach, Missouri; his sisters-in law Linda Kauffman, and Joanne Bald both of Audubon, Iowa, Deanna Kauffman of Estherville, Iowa, and Debbie Lewis of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday evening, February 22, 2024, from 5:00 pm. until 8:00 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Minister Jason Zaiger on Friday morning, February 23, 2024, at 10:30 am, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, The honorary casket bearers will be his great-grandchildren Marshall Kohout, Parker Kohout, Keegan Ellis, Dean Ellis, Lillian Ellis, Blakeleigh Snow, Mila Kay King, Rhett Hanson, and baby boy Lewis. The casket bearers will be his grandchildren Justina Kohout, Samantha Ellis, Rachel King, Jacob Snow, Brittany Snow, Taylor Hanson, and Dylan Lewis.
