(Indianapolis, IN) – The Iowa Hawkeyes were not able to get a point on the board with a stagnant offense as they fell 26-0 to Michigan. Iowa’s defense came into play as they kept Michigan to under 213 total yards of offense, which is the least they have had all season and 182 yards below average.
Iowa’s offense played conservatively in the game with only 155 total yards. Deacon Hill passed 18-32 for just 120 yards passing. Michigan was able to capitalize on three turnovers with 10 points on the board. Leshon Williams rushed for 25 yards, leading the team overall on nine attempts.
The defensive side of the field was where there was success for Iowa. The Hawkeyes were led by Jay Higgins with 14 tackles while Sebastian Castro had nine. Iowa’s defense was able to get to Michigan a total of four times and earn four different sacks. Higgins now has 155 total tackles this year, the fourth most in program history. Punter Tory Taylor had seven punts for a total of 353 yards, which included a 67-yarder in the second quarter, which is the second-longest in Big Ten Championship history. His 353 yards are the second-most in Big Ten history as well.
Iowa was able to hold Michigan to 66 total rushing yards in the game, the least for the Wolverines this season as they averaged 169 yards on the ground. It is the 27th consecutive game that the Hawkeye defense has allowed under 400 yards which is the longest national streak for any team at the FCS level.
The Hawkeyes will await their fate for the Bowl game that will be announced this Sunday afternoon.
