(Iowa) Iowa residents can try fishing without purchasing a license this weekend.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Free Fishing Weekend begins today and runs through Sunday.
John Lorenzen, fisheries biologist, said all bag and size limit regulations will still apply.
Free fishing weekend is always the first full weekend of June.
There will be several events taking place across the state for Free Fishing Weekend as well.
Lake Anita State Park is hosting a Kids Fishing Day at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. The event will take place south of the boat ramp, near the beach. Each child under 16 will receive a prize. Hot dogs, chips and water will be provided.
A Kid’s Fishing Derby will take place at Arrowhead Park near Neola on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Children must bring their own fishing pole and bait to join in the fishing derby. Some bait will be provided. Children must be ages 15 or younger to participate. Every child entered in the derby will receive a snack, and prizes are awarded in several categories.
