(Atlantic) – Nevada quarterback Connor King connected with Kyle Kingsbury with four touchdown passes to lead the Cubs past Atlantic 42-7.
The Cubs combined for 342 yards of offense, 176 passing, and 166 rushing. King and Kingsbury teamed up for touchdowns of 18, 31, 23, and 12 yards. King completed 9/17 passes for 176 yards and four touchdowns. Kingsbury caught six passes for 133 yards and four scores. Cason Stevenson carried the ball 18 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns.
Atlantic totaled 200 yards of offense, 173 rushing, and 27 yards passing. Dante Hedrington led the Trojans ground game 29 times for 133 yards and a one-yard touchdown. The senior led the team in rushing with 681 yards.
King and Kingsbury hooked up on an 18-yard touchdown strike with 2:30 left to play in the first quarter. The extra failed, and the Cubs led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. The visitors separated themselves from the Trojans with three scores in the second stanza. Kingsbury caught TD passes of 31 and 23 yards, and Cason Stevenson scored on a seven-yard run to push the score to 28-0 at the break.
Despite the steep hill to climb, the Trojans continued to battle and opened up the second half by recovering their onside kick and polishing the ensuing drive with Hedrington’s one-yard plunge. Nevada answered quickly when Cason Stevenson broke loose on a 42-yard run. The game’s final tally came with 32 seconds left in the third quarter on a King to Kingsbury touchdown pass covering 12 yards.
Atlantic ends the season at 2-3 in district play and 3 and 6 overall. Nevada advances to the Class 3A State Playoffs with a 7-2 overall record and 4-1 in district play.
