(Atlantic) Vicki and the Late Dale Retallic were honored at the Cass County Fair on Thursday evening as the 2026 inductees into the Iowa 4H Hall of Fame.
Dale Retallic’s roots in Cass County 4-H began as a member of the Bear Grove H.O.T. 4-H Club. As a 4-H member, he was active in exhibiting, participated in community and fairgrounds service projects, and faithfully completed his record book every year. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning Grand Champion Market Beef.
Dale married fellow Cass County 4-H member Vicki Weppler, and together they continued their commitment to the 4-H program. As their family grew with the addition of their sons, Justin and Troy, Dale and Vicki remained actively involved, serving as leaders of the Grove H.O.T. 4-H Club for more than two decades. They encouraged their sons to develop a passion for exhibiting while instilling the importance of giving back through service, including serving as County Fair livestock superintendents.
There has been a Retallic in the superintendent role of the Rabbit department for the last 26 fairs, demonstrating the families dedication to the Cass County Fair and its exhibitors. Year after year, the Retallic family spent the last week of July at the fair. Vicki also devoted more than 30 years of service to the Fair Food Stand.
In 2023, Dale and his family played an instrumental role in planning the Grove H.O.T. 4-H Club’s 100-year anniversary celebration.
On February 22, 2026, Dale passed away unexpectedly. Even in their grief, his family continued to support Cass County 4-H events, reflecting the values of service and dedication that Dale lived throughout his life.
Dale and his family never missed a Cass County Fair, and his presence and years of faithful service will be deeply missed.
