(Atlantic) Atlantic heads into week 8 with a 2-1 district record and 3-4 overall. The Trojans are coming off a 21-0 victory over Perry last week. Up next, Harlan. The Cyclones enter the contest with a 4-3 record and 1-2 in district play.
Last week, in the win over Perry, the Trojans rolled up 299 yards of total offense, 207 yards on the ground, and 92 yards in the air. Atlantic held the Bluejays under 100 yards of total offense, 29 passing, and 60 yards rushing. Geren Kinney went 7-for-25 passing for 29 yards. Kinney led the team in rushing with nine carries for 40 yards.
Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says his team played a good game, and there were some things they need to improve on. Brummer says one; being shut out on the Bluejay’s one-yard line was disappointing, along with a turnover deep inside their territory. He says the positive was the defense.
Brummer points to the speed and a well-rounded Harlan team the Trojans are preparing for this week.
Coach Brummer says the Cyclones have a stable full of good athletes.
The Trojans are still in the playoff picture with Harlan on Friday night and Nevada next week. Coach Brummer says it is a good spot because the pressure is still on.
The Cyclones have passed for 1,488 yards this season and rushed for 961. Will Arkfeld has completed 56.3 percent of his passes for 1,406 yards, and Noah Schmitz leads the rushing attack with 343 yards and a 6.2 yards per carry average.
Atlantic has thrown for 741 yards and rushed for 1,119. Zayden Parker has completed 50 percent of his passes for 670 yards. Gavin McLaren and Dante Hedrington have rushed for 444 and 440 yards, respectively.
